Family-Friendly Munster Ball for 2003
October 26, 2003

Charles and Sandra McKeeDon't worry, Munster fans, the McKees will once again hold a Halloween bash at their ever-popular Munster Mansion!

Charles and Sandra McKee, as Texas Twisted first reported last year, are the Waxahachie couple who have built as their dream home a replica of the Victorian-style mansion from the 1960s TV show The Munsters. Last Halloween, the mansion was the site of the Munster Mansion Masquerade Party, attended by the actors who played Eddie and Grandpa on the original series.

This Halloween, the McKees are holding another celebration, but of a different kind. They have decided to organize a more family-oriented party, which will this year benefit the Ellis County Children's Advocacy Center.

The Center, known as The Gingerbread House, is a non-profit organization that assists Ellis County's physically and sexually abused children and their families.

The party will feature a midway with games, a haunted house, face-painting, plenty of food and, of course, tours of the Munster Mansion. The McKees will also hold a children's costume contest with prizes.

Sandra says the new family-friendly format was chosen because so many kids wanted to come last year, but were unable since the party was targeted more toward the older crowd. But she encourages fans of all ages to come out this year and help support the cause.

The party will be held Friday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 1 from 5 p.m. to midnight. Parking is not available at the mansion; instead, park at the Waxahachie Junior High School, located at 2401 Brown St., where a bus will take you to the house. Tickets will be sold at the gate.

If you need more information, Sandra recommends calling John Wyckoff, executive director of The Gingerbread House, at (972) 937-1870.

Munster Party a Frightening Hit
October 31, 2002

The spirits are in the air.

The first-ever Munster Mansion Masquerade Party took place on Saturday and has been deemed by Texas Twisted a huge success!

The pre-Halloween celebration was hosted by Charles and Sandra McKee, the Waxahachie couple who have been building as their personal home a nearly exact replica of the house featured on the 1960s sitcom The Munsters (Feb. 4). They organized the party with the help of Butch Patrick, who played young Eddie Munster on the original series. Patrick signed autographs at the party while busily ensuring everything went as planned.

Also in attendance was Al "Grandpa" Lewis, who spent the evening chatting with guests and signing memorabilia. Patrick had also hoped to bring to the occasion Pat Priest, the actress who played Marilyn Munster, niece to Herman and Lily. Due to an illness, however, she was unable to make it.

The party, which helped to benefit the Texas Baptist Home for Children, is hoped to become an annual event.

On Feb. 8, Texas Twisted reported on the building of a full-size replica of the house once inhabited by the 1960s sitcom family the Munsters.

The Munster House, as it has come to be known, is still under construction, but that didn't stop Charles and Sandra McKee from inviting TV's Eddie Munster to Waxahachie to have a look.

Butch Patrick flew in from Las Vegas on Sunday to see how things were shaping up. Patrick, who played the werewolf child of Herman and Lily on the series, gave the house his enthusiastic approval.

As the McKees work feverishly to finish their ghoulish mansion, Patrick is busy organizing a Halloween party to toast the house's completion. They are all hoping that Al Lewis (Grandpa) and Pat Priest (Marilyn) will be able to attend.

Some people's idea of a dream house approaches others' idea of a nightmare.

That couldn't be more true than in north Waxahachie, where Charles and Sandra McKee are spending an estimated $250,000 to construct a nearly identical replica of the Victorian mansion once belonging to the 1960s sitcom family the Munsters.

The 2-story, 5,825-square-foot house, which has been designed from set photos and television clips, will include almost all the major features of the original. Secret passages will wind their way through the second story, Grandpa's dungeon will open through a trap door in the floor and a hydraulic staircase will lift open to reveal the pet's quarters. In this case, of course, the quarters will be for a dog instead of a fire-breathing dragon, but he'll still bear the name Spot.

One thing the house won't have, however, is a coffin-shaped phone booth. As Sandra put it, "That's just too creepy for me."
