Family-Friendly Munster Ball for 2003
October 26, 2003

Charles and Sandra McKeeDon't worry, Munster fans, the McKees will once again hold a Halloween bash at their ever-popular Munster Mansion!

Charles and Sandra McKee, as Texas Twisted first reported last year, are the Waxahachie couple who have built as their dream home a replica of the Victorian-style mansion from the 1960s TV show The Munsters. Last Halloween, the mansion was the site of the Munster Mansion Masquerade Party, attended by the actors who played Eddie and Grandpa on the original series.

This Halloween, the McKees are holding another celebration, but of a different kind. They have decided to organize a more family-oriented party, which will this year benefit the Ellis County Children's Advocacy Center.

The Center, known as The Gingerbread House, is a non-profit organization that assists Ellis County's physically and sexually abused children and their families.

The party will feature a midway with games, a haunted house, face-painting, plenty of food and, of course, tours of the Munster Mansion. The McKees will also hold a children's costume contest with prizes.

Sandra says the new family-friendly format was chosen because so many kids wanted to come last year, but were unable since the party was targeted more toward the older crowd. But she encourages fans of all ages to come out this year and help support the cause.

The party will be held Friday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 1 from 5 p.m. to midnight. Parking is not available at the mansion; instead, park at the Waxahachie Junior High School, located at 2401 Brown St., where a bus will take you to the house. Tickets will be sold at the gate.

If you need more information, Sandra recommends calling John Wyckoff, executive director of The Gingerbread House, at (972) 937-1870.

State Fair's 'Taste and See' Biggest Hit Ever
October 21, 2003

Fried OreosOfficials at the State Fair of Texas have announced that this year's food-centric celebration has set another record high.

The 24-day fair, which focused on fairgoers' palates with the theme "Taste and See," brought in an incredible $24.5 million in coupon sales. Much of the record sum was spent on the sumptuous fare served from the festival's more than 200 concession stands.

Vendors served up several new fried delectables this year, which could be responsible for the increase in spending. Fairgoers flocked to such treats as the fried Snickers, fried Oreos and fried ice cream, all of which were new to the fair this year.

The Buck Starts Here
October 8, 2003

In Tex We TrustThe newly redesigned $20 bill officially goes into circulation tomorrow and Big Tex will help kick off its initiation.

The new bill, enhanced with improved security features, is produced at the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing's Fort Worth plant, one of only two facilities that print U.S. currency. The Texas plant prints 54% of the nation's bills.

The first official transaction using a multi-color Jackson will take place at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow in Big Tex Circle. Reportedly, Tex himself will play a part in the ceremony.

Although Texas Twisted has been unable to ascertain what the inaugural bill will be used to buy, sources report that the $20 purchase price is "the same as in town."
