Texas Twisted host Wesley Treat hit a milestone yesterday as the odometer on his brand-new road-trip vehicle turned over 1,000 miles.
"Not quite as dramatic with a digital odometer; you don't get to see all the 9s roll over. But still pretty cool," Wesley typed as he wrote this headline.
Wesley made the decision to purchase a new car after his 1994 Nissan Altima left him stranded off the highway while photographing bluebonnets for a repeatedly delayed Roadside Headlines Special Report. It was his second stranding in 4 months.
The Altima, which sold for a whopping $500, had taken Texas Twisted's avid driver to countless attractions in Texas and across the United States. Its last trip was to Austin, an expedition that included the Congress Avenue Bats and the Wilson House.
As the odometer on his 2003 Toyota Corolla advanced into the quadruple digits, Wesley was listening to They Might Be Giants' Lincoln, a fact that turns out to be entirely insignificant.
The mileage milestone officially ends the Corolla's factory-recommended break-in period, as described in the owner's manual. Wesley may now commit full-throttle starts, drive for a long time at any single speed (fast or slow) and tow a trailer.
As he drove his new vehicle away from the dealership, leaving behind his much-loved Altima, Wesley was heard to say, "Goodbye, dear fr... Hey, cool! A place for my cell phone!" |
