If the prayers of a Fair Oaks Ranch couple are answered, Bandera may soon be the site of a multi-million-dollar, live Christian epic.
Scott and Lori Felder are looking to purchase the vacant Bandera Downs racetrack, formerly a den of pari-mutuel betting, and convert it to an open-air theater. The theater would be home to the Messiah Project, a live performance depicting the birth, life, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Felders say their vision would require an initial investment of $5 million.
The project would be similar to an already popular attraction in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Titled the Great Passion Play, the production pulls in 200,000 visitors every year during its six-month run.
Many Banderans say they would welcome the Messiah Project and its potential tourist revenue, while others would rather have an attraction more representative of the city's self-designation "Cowboy Capital of the World."
Bandera is also home to the Frontier Times Museum, which, as Texas Twisted reported a few months ago, had lost its prized shrunken head. |
