The Dublin Dr. Pepper plant, located 2 hours southwest of Fort Worth, is the world's oldest, and perhaps most famous, bottler of Dr. Pepper. When other manufacturers switched to using cheaper corn sweeteners in their recipes years ago, the Dublin plant continued to use real sugar obtained from a refinery in Sugar Land, a practice that consumers believe results in a uniquely tasty product.
The Sugar Land refinery, located just outside Houston, has provided the Dublin plant with its signature Imperial Pure Cane Sugar for all of its 111 years of bottling. However, Imperial Sugar has recently announced that it will shut down its historic refinery by the end of this month, an announcement that has left many Dublin DP fans worried.
Don't fret, says the good Doc. According to Dublin Dr. Pepper's Anita Bryant, "Sugar Land will continue to be a distribution point for Imperial Sugar," assuring Texas Twisted that the facility's closure "will in no way affect our ability to obtain the special sugar that we need to continue bottling Dr. Pepper made with Imperial Pure Cane Sugar."
So, don't worry, fans. Although the refinery's closing will put 326 people out of work, the rest of us will still be able to rot our teeth as God intended. |
