Following the latest trend in public bovine art, a non-profit organization is establishing BulLovArts, a creative endeavor seeking to populate Fort Worth with fiberglass longhorns. The show is planned to run from January through October 2002.
The Fort Worth project involves artistically painted and altered longhorn statues. "Nude" fiberglass calves and bulls can be purchased for a price ranging from $6,000 to $20,000, depending on their level of decoration and alteration. Funds go toward children's arts programs.
Similar bovine projects have been successful in other cities, including Zurich, Chicago and New York. But as Doug Harman, president and chief executive of the Fort Worth Convention and Visitor's Bureau, points out, "You'd be hard pressed to find a city with a better match to an animal."
Local artists and schoolchildren are being recruited to submit designs. Some of those being considered: "Vegeta-bull," decorated with produce, "Bovine Intervention," dressed as an angel, and "Huckle-bull-rry Finn," sporting a corncob pipe and riding a raft. |
